Whenever I get to a new city, I always head to a market.

It’s the best way to immerse yourself in the culture of a place. Some of my market experiences include:

  • Being treated for insomnia by a Chinese Herbalist in Singapore.

  • Sampling multitudes of tropical fruit in the Philippines.

  • Snacking on fired spiders and crickets in Cambodia.

  • Overloading my tastebuds with every kind of pickle and fermented vegetable imaginable in Japan.

These experiences helped me to connect with these cities.

What are your market experiences?

My name is Tiffany, and after years travelling around the world I now live in the bustling metropolis of Metro Manila.

I would love you to join me as we explore the markets that make this city come alive.

Meet me at the market will connect you to the experience of the markets of this lively place in a way that will make you truly understand what makes this city tick.

Markets showcase a cities culture and encourage community building. They are the lifeblood of a city.

I want to bring the story of the markets, and the people who inhabit them, to the world so others can enjoy what I have found.

Meet me at the market, will take you on a journey through the metro showcasing different perspectives of each market.

When you have the opportunity please join me in the ‘Markets’ section to learn about my perspective of each of the markets in this city as I visit them.

But looking isn’t enough we will need to sample the tastes so visit the ‘Recipes’ section to learn about the varying and exotic cuisine that I have found from shopping at the markets.

The Philippines has a relatively unknown cuisine but one that is primed to make its mark and markets are the forefront of that.

But we all know that it is actually the people – the characters – the amazing faces that are the heart of all markets. So, for all those cool people stories check out the ‘People’ section to meet the characters that make the markets so memorable. Hear from the small traders in the stalls to the regular customers.

Markets are bustling, fun and connected places. They are made up of faces, smells and tastes that feed the senses – and the soul. So, I need you share with me what you feel markets bring to a city?

I want to create a community of market lovers. I’m keen to hear your market stories and what you love about markets.

Connect with me via email, social media or the comments section.

I’m looking forward to taking you on this exciting journey.
